As of March 20, 2013 KSI finished one of its largest studies ever! This study was started over a year ago and examined the penetration rate of athletic trainers in secondary schools across the entire United States. In order to do to accomplish this, KSI staff members teamed up to call every public high school in America. Partnering with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, we were able to contact the athletic directors of over 9,000 high schools! With the help of over 40 UConn students we received a 50% response rate, which was much greater than expected!
By making these phone calls we were able to estimate the number of schools with athletic trainers, number of athletes with access to athletic trainers, position types (full time, part time, clinic outreach, etc), barriers to hiring athletic trainers, perceived medical coverage at schools that do not employ athletic trainers…just to name a few.
